CURRENT ROLE:
I provide in-home, community occupational therapy services for Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) clients. My role involves carrying out assessments and interventions aimed at improving my clients’ health, safety, quality of life, and independence. Many people are unaware of the broad scope of community occupational therapy, and I take pride in helping them understand how we can assist in achieving their goals.
A typical day for me includes visiting multiple clients’ homes to conduct assessments and make tailored recommendations. These might include home safety assessments, ADL assessments, home modifications, cognitive assessments, and the prescription of assistive equipment. I also offer education to support clients in their daily activities.
What I enjoy most about my role is the diversity it offers. Each day brings new environments and the opportunity to meet different people, which keeps the work exciting. I love seeing clients achieve their goals and feel privileged to play a part in their journey.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, spending time outdoors, staying active, and traveling. I also love spending time with family and friends, as well as my King Charles Cavalier, Harlow, who always keeps me on my toes.
EXPERIENCE:
I graduated from the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours). During university, I completed placements in aged care at Rembrandt Living and with Paralympics Australia, where I helped individuals with disabilities access sports participation. I also worked as a Disability Support Worker, assisting adolescents with various disabilities in achieving their goals.
