Position title: Occupational Therapist
Office phone: (08) 8331 0566
Geographical areas covered (OT only): Metropolitan Adelaide and Adelaide Hills. Other areas by negotiation.
My current role involves providing occupational therapy for NDIS participants which primarily involves providing assessments for assistive technology and home modifications. My typical day at work will often involve visiting clients in their home or meeting clients at equipment suppliers for trials. After assessments have been completed with the clients, I spend time at the office completing assistive technology applications or diagrams for home modifications. I also spend time coordinating the equipment, modifications or supports that I recommend for them.
I am also responsible for the portfolio of home modifications, the part of my role that I enjoy the most. I am interested in the concept of universal design that is aimed at creating environments that are accessible to all people of all abilities. My portfolio involves keeping up to date with the latest guidelines around providing home modifications through the NDIS. I also research new ideas and concepts related to home modifications and identify suitable professional development that could benefit our occupational therapists.
I graduated from the University of South Australia in 2017 with a Master of Occupational Therapy and commenced with Living to the Max as a new graduate. Prior to this, I graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Health Sciences.
My main accomplishments in this time have been transitioning from working with DVA clients and elderly to working with NDIS clients and participants with complex physical disabilities. I am passionate about working with people who have complex physical disabilities therefore I am proud to have achieved this transition so soon in my OT career.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE:
I have experience working with clients who require assistive technology such as powered and manual wheelchairs, other mobility aids, personal care and daily living aids, pressure sore prevention/management, seating and postural needs assessments and home modifications – simple through to complex.
Personally, I enjoy spending time in the great outdoors! My partner and I enjoy hiking and camping. We also enjoy travelling (when this is possible), gardening, cooking and looking after our dog, Monty. Spending time with my family and friends is also a big part of my life outside of work.
A fun fact about me is that I enjoy woodworking and I have been able to make several small pieces of furniture which I am very happy with.
