Emma Johnson

Position title: Team Leader & Senior Occupational Therapist
Office phone: (08) 8331 0566
Email: emma.johnson@livingtothemax.com.au
Geographical areas covered (OT only): Metropolitan Adelaide and Adelaide Hills. Other areas by negotiation.

My clinical role involves providing Occupational Therapy for participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Lifetime Support Authority (LSA) and Comprehensive Third-Party Insurance (CTP) in the form of assessments for assistive technology and home modifications. As Team Leader I am able to support my colleagues and work closely with my manager to ensure Living to the Max provides the highest quality Occupational Therapy services.

My typical day at work will often include visiting clients in their home or meeting clients at a supplier for equipment trials. After assessments have been completed, I spend time at the office completing assistive technology reports/ applications or diagrams for home modifications. As Team Leader, I also spend time supervising other clinicians, collaborating with my manager to improve our services, and keeping up to date with relevant information related to our practice.

I am also responsible for assisting my team with home modification prescription. I enjoy this part of my role because it utilises my practical mind and allows me to work closely with my colleagues. I am also interested in the concept of universal design that is aimed at creating environments that are accessible to people of all abilities. My responsibilities include keeping up to date with the latest guidelines around providing home modifications through the NDIS. I also investigate new ideas and concepts related to home modifications and OT practice and identify suitable professional development opportunities for the team to benefit our participants.

As an Occupational Therapist with accreditation to complete the Functional Independence Measure (FIM), I am trained and experienced in functional capacity assessments. I am always looking for new opportunities to complete this assessment for those who require it.

I graduated from the University of South Australia in 2017 with a Master of Occupational Therapy and commenced with Living to the Max as a new graduate. Prior to this, I graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Health Sciences.

My main career accomplishments have been transitioning to working with NDIS participants with complex physical disabilities. I am also honoured to be Team Leader at Living to the Max, and I am proud to have achieved this transition in my Occupational Therapy career.

Personally, I enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. My partner and I live in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, and we enjoy hiking and camping in our free time. We also enjoy travelling, gardening, and cooking. Spending time with my family and friends is also a big part of my life outside of work.

A fun fact about me is that I enjoy woodworking and I have been able to make several small pieces of furniture which I am very happy with.
