Position title: Senior Occupational Therapist
Office phone: (08) 8331 0566
Geographical areas covered (OT only): Metropolitan Adelaide and Adelaide Hills. Other areas by negotiation
I have been working as an Occupational Therapist with Living to the Max since 2016, with my current role to provide occupational therapy services to people living with a disability, their family and relevant support people and services in the community.
I typically undertake an in-home assessment of a person’s needs and help them to develop an intervention plan around their goals. Often intervention includes prescribing a range of basic and complex Assistive Technology (AT), home modifications, environmental adaptations, and education and training strategies. I also undertake assessments, such as the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) assessment, various cognitive, quality of life and other Occupational Therapy assessments to help determine someone’s support needs and measure outcomes over time.
My role frequently involves preparing comprehensive reports to help justify care needs and funding or various types of AT or home modifications. This often requires extensive research and trialling of equipment, particularly for clients with very complex needs and those requiring significant customisation. Intervention has also included cognitive assessment and intervention strategies to support engagement with meaningful tasks. I am also passionate about ensuring everyone has a holistic approach to their support needs, often advocating for additional supports to ensure the best outcomes are achieved.
I have experience working with people with complex needs, liaising with their support team to provide the best support to the individual possible. I have worked with a number of people with diagnoses including Cerebral Palsy, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, various Dementia diagnoses, Intellectual Disability, Amputee’s, Acquired/Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease among others.
I am also responsible for the portfolio of manual handling and restrictive practice. I have extensive experience in manual handling assessments and plans and I enjoy learning about new equipment and keeping up to date with techniques and guidelines around safe manual handling and work practices, while maximising independence and function.
I graduated from the University of South Australia in 2013 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy.
I commenced my career as an Occupational Therapist in residential aged care before joining Disability SA in the Adult Specialist Services Intervention Support Team (ASSIST) from January 2014 to January 2016.
From January 2016, I have worked for Living to the Max providing occupational therapy services for a wide range of clients and funding sources, including DVA, Medicare, private health insurance, My Aged Care, NDIS, Lifetime Support Authority and RTWSA. I have also provided clinical supervision and support to colleagues at Living to the Max.
